HOW THE 1988 "GENERATIONS" NEWSPAPER WAS PRODUCED

Our newspaper staff, from left: Christine Howard, daughter of Abbie Lee Howard; Ella Haynes Hooks, play-daughter
of Abbie Lee, and Sherry L. Howard, daughter of Abbie Lee.

We were awash with pride.

In two states, hundreds of miles apart, we were searching old census records for some mention of Green Howard and his family. Soon, we located it: the names of Green, his wife Rebecca and their children, including tidbits about their lives.

We were overjoyed; we had gone back nearly 90 years and found our past. We knew then that our long hours of worrying about the newspaper, our stiff backs from bending over to lay our photos and stories, and our incessant prodding of relatives to turn in information was all worth it.

So, we bring to you with full hearts our history in words and pictures. This newspaper has been a labor of love, and its worth is immeasurable. Through it, we hope you can experience the same feelings as we did in putting it together.

We found that in learning a little about our ancestors we learned a lot about ourselves. For without them, where would we be?
