“This Is Your Life” skit honors retiring teacher
Mary Howard was honored Dec. 15, 1976, with a reception at St. Peter Claver Hall. She was retiring after teaching 20 years in the parish. Mary was given a check. Frank Clowers, parent-teacher council president, presented her with a plaque. The Rev. J. Galvin was speaker, and a former student, Helen Gilbert, was soloist. Highlighting the reception was a “This Is Your Life” program presented by family and friends.
Charles and Mary’s nuptials
The former Mary Patterson and Charles Howard were married on Feb. 5, 1950, at St. Peter Claver’s Rectory. Mary is the daughter of Mrs. Marion Patterson and the late Jesse Patterson. Charles is the son of Mrs. Annie Lee Howard and the late Alonzo Howard.
Only a few intimate friends and family members witnessed the double-ring ceremony at which the bride’s sister, Mrs. Jessie Robinson, and her brother, Thomas Patterson, were attendants.
Following the ceremony, a reception was given at the home of the bride’s parents. Several days later, the couple left for Detroit, where they lived for many years. Charles had already settled in Detroit some years before.
